Diagnostic Mammograms are used for patients with a personal history of breast cancer as well as to investigate suspicious breast changes, such as a breast lump, breast pain, an unusual skin appearance, nipple thickening or nipple discharge. Research conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) has shown that Digital Mammography is a valuable diagnostic tool for women under age 50, pre-or perimenopausal women, and women with dense breasts.
Additional exams, such as a breast ultrasound, may be performed to aid in diagnosis.
